Suitable for young adults and adults at beginner level.

This event will be recorded with a view to being made available to watch later via Cardiff Hubs & Libraries and its partners’ YouTube and/or social media channels. You can of course keep your camera off and mic on mute.

This is a beginner level workshop delivered by Ms Yukiko Ayres who will introduce participants to the Japanese Calligraphy items and demonstrate Kanji’s basic lines and the word ‘Tiger’ in Kanji with a brush. She will then assist participants in writing basic lines and “Tiger” with brush or pen. For this session, you can use normal white paper and pen or pencil if you do not have calligraphy paper, brush & ink.


This event will be online via Microsoft Teams. You will need to download Teams to your device in advance of the event. A link will be sent to your registered email just before the event starts. Ms Yukiko Ayres is a UK based private Calligraphy tutor. She started learning Japanese Calligraphy at the age of 6 and was apprenticed in the Calligraphy school of Nihon Shodouin and became a Doujin at the age of 26. (YouTube Channel)

Ms Kaori Onoda, a private Japanese Language tutor will be coordinating simultaneous Japanese translation. This event will be delivered in Japanese and English. If you would like to access the event in Welsh, please notify us 2 weeks in advance of the event.
